An Unexpected Delivery

On November 5th I went to my weekly doctor visit and stress test. My sweet sister-in-law Kim comes every Wednesday to watch Landon while I go to my appointments and to help me around the house. She has been a huge help and blessing!! On the 5th we had decided to prepare some freezer crockpot meals I can dump in any time I need a meal after the twins arrive. I left my doctor appointment with everything going well. I headed to Macey's to pick up the groceries I needed for the dump meals, and arrived home around noon. We had lunch and I put Landon down for his nap. As I rocked Landon and read him a book I started feeling some contractions and when I came back into my kitchen, I noticed that I needed to sit down for a breather. Kim had started chopping veggies and preparing the bags for the meals, but encouraged me to take a break. I felt so guilty sitting on my tush while she was making my dinners! But the contractions did not stop and they increased in intensity which was making Kim very nervous and me too! I have never gone into labor on my own so I did not think it was really happening. Kim started timing my contractions and writing them down. I called Jeremy at work and told him that I was having some contractions and they weren't the Braxton hicks kind-just to let him know. We continued monitoring as Kim kept making the meals. After an hour of contractions that were getting closer in time Kim suggested I call my doctor.

They told me that I needed to go to the hospital and have them monitor the contractions. I called Jeremy back (around 3:20pm) and told him what the doctor had said. I also told him that I could wait until he was off work at 4pm to go. He was home 10 min later :). We called our parents & family just to let them know. Kim kindly said she would stay with our children until we knew what was going to happen and we headed to the hospital. We were in a triage room watching the Jazz game on mute (the hospital didn't have a good channel for watching the game-it was ll fuzzy) while having the contractions monitored. Jeremy headed to the cafeteria to get dinner and soon after the nurse came in and said that these contractions are some major contractions and after consulting with my doctor they decided that these babies were coming tonight. I looked at her in unbelief since I am a planner and this was not part of the plan (being only 35 weeks & 4 days) and also I thought they would give me some drugs to stop the contractions and send me home. I was wrong. The nurse said you just keep denying it and I will get the doctors ready. She was an awesome nurse! So at 8:30pm we headed to the operating room (because I am a repeat c-section kind of patient) and at 8:53 the doctor announced it was cut time. At 9:01pm Savannah Marjorie was born and at 9:02pm Whitney Loa was born. It was the quickest c-section for twins the nurses had ever seen. Whitney had swallowed quite a bit of fluid and was having trouble breathing so they took her to NICU. We did not see her again until the next day when we were allowed to go in and see her and feed her. It was so scary not knowing what was happening with her. She remained in NICU for another day and then arrived to newborn unit at midnight on the 6th. I was so happy to have her with us and with her sister. I was so drained from traveling to the NICU and back and doing double feeding and cuddle times. Most of our family only met Savannah in the hospital. Savannah weighed 5 lbs 3 ounces and Whitney weighed 5lbs, 2 ounces. Both were 17 1/2 inches long. They already like to be just like the other.

Brielle and Landon coming to visit and meeting Savannah-kids were not allowed in the NICU.
They were also sick and had to wear masks for almost a week after we came home.

We are so excited to have them join our family. We are all in love and can't get enough of them! Thank you again Kim for all your help!! It was so nice not having to worry about our first two children while we delivered our last two.
